Golden Gate Chapter Volunteer Opportunities for 2012-2013 Board Year

Have you considered joining the Golden Gate Chapter Board of Directors? Do enjoy the benefits of being an ALA member, but aren’t sure how things get done and by whom? Here’s an excellent opportunity to learn about our Chapter and to get involved.

We are looking for enthusiastic, energetic and dedicated individuals to fill the following positions for the new Board year (no previous board experience necessary):

Knowledge to Leadership Conference Returns!

The Golden Gate Chapter is very excited about the return of the Knowledge to Leadership Conference and Exposition on February 2, 2012. We are expecting Mary O'Neill to start the day off for us, Sean Carter to keep us laughing during lunch and Eileen McDargh to close out the day. There will be multiple tracks both in the morning and afternoon. The sessions focus on core management competecies, with the hope everyone can learn something new and use it within our firms. We have a wonderful group of exhibitors ready to share their ideas and products with us. This is an opportunity to receive some high quality education without leaving town.

Introducing The Gold Nugget Program

Before the Golden Gate Bridge, Coit Tower, the San Francisco Giants and 49ers, the cable cars, and those beautiful painted ladies, there was pure gold to be found out west, and we are certain you can still find some nuggets today! We challenge you to start panning for gold and accumulating nuggets by participating in Golden Gate Chapter activities! Adpot-A-Family

Once again this year the Chapter will be sponsoring two families through the Compass Adopt-a-Family program. Compass’ Adopt-a-Family project pairs individuals or groups from the community with needy families who lack the resources to buy holiday gifts. For many of these families, these gifts are the only ones they will receive this holiday season. The Adopt-a-Family project matches individuals or group donors with a family/families who is/are homeless or extremely low-income.

The Chapter has budgeted from our general fund for this purpose. But if any member would like to contribute further to this worthy cause, please contact David Chi at dchi@zelle.com or Pam Lentz at plentz@mofo.com. We would appreciate any additional funds received as it will mean we can fulfill more of the families’ wishes. The deadline for additional monetary contributions is Friday, December 9. Thanks so much.

 San Francisco Food Bank: two events – Tuesday, October 11 from 6:00 to 8:00 p.m. and Saturday morning, October 15 from 9:00 to 12:00.

 “Light the Night Walk” sponsored by the Leukemia & Lymphoma Society, October 20 from 5:00 to 7:00 pm.

DIVERSITY INTERNSHIP PROGRAM

The Diversity Committee is seeking firms where we can place a student intern from San Francisco City College to gain experience in the following career paths. HUMAN RESOURCES * FINANCE & ACCOUNTING OFFICE SERVICES * FACILITIES INFORMATION SYSTEMS & TECHNOLOGY Students will receive course credit for working 10 - 20 hours per week, so there is no cost to the hosting firm. Your firm will provide an instructional opportunity for minority students to learn about the important non-attorney jobs that are vital in the operation of a law firm. Upon successful completion, two students will be awarded a $750 scholarship provided by our Sponsors Davidson Legal Staffing & The People Connection Inc. Golden Gate Chapter Launches New Website & Logo

The website committee included Susan Bonner, Jennifer Connon, Steve Morris, Matt Ogden, Kim Coates and Keith Foote. Members provided valuable feedback on what was missing from the chapter's current website. The new site is interactive, crisp and full of new features. The November Bridge highlights the many changes which includes a new logo.
